Media Advisory - August 13, 2002
| WHAT: |
HDNet premieres a new World Report covering the growing conflict between India and Pakistan, in a second co-production with The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer. Throughout four half-hour news segments, special correspondent Simon Marks takes viewers on a journey through India, Pakistan and the disputed region of Kashmir, all broadcast in spectacular 1080i high-definition television (HDTV) format.
In the first report, “The General’s Dilemma,” Marks takes a look at the challenges facing Pakistani leader General Pervez Musharraf as he confronts growing domestic political troubles.
In the second report, Marks travels dangerously close to the border in the disputed region of Kashmir. He visits both sides of the line of control, and holds an exclusive interview with the deputy Prime Minister of India, L.K. Advani. While in Kashmir, Marks explores the beauty and tragedy of a region that was heading toward a booming economy before being ruined by this conflict.
In the final segment, the report analyzes the current status of U.S.-India relations and how it has evolved since the Cold War. In an interview with Indian foreign minister Yashwant Sinha, Marks examines the economic ties between the two countries.
