FOR RELEASE: February 4, 2003 Charter to Offer HDTV Service in Fort Worth With Cable Industry's First HDNet LaunchHDNet Co-Founder Mark Cuban and Charter CEO Carl Vogel to Introduce ServicesFort Worth, Tex. - Charter Communications will announce today that Charter High Definition Service™ is now available to many customers in Fort Worth and in select Dallas suburbs. As part of its HDTV service, Charter will offer HDNet making it the first cable operator with HDTV service in the Metroplex and the first cable operator in the country to provide Dallas-based HDNet programming to its customers. HDNet Co-founder and President Mark Cuban and Charter President and CEO Carl Vogel will host a kick-off event today to officially announce the launch of the new Charter High Definition Service at Marvin Electronics Co., 2750 S. Hulen, Fort Worth. The 11:00 a.m. news conference will include comments by Cuban and Vogel. "The number of customers purchasing HDTV sets is steadily increasing and they are demanding high-quality programming," said Charter's Dan Spoelman, vice-president Operations Fort Worth. "Charter's High Definition Service provides customers a brilliant and colorful video experience that is unlike anything viewers have seen before. Charter is proud to be the first cable operator to partner with HDNet so that we can provide our customers with the finest HDTV programming available." Charter High Definition Service is available to a portion of Charter's customers in Ft. Worth and all Charter customers in Park Cities. Customers who subscribe to HDTV service will receive dedicated 24-hour HDTV programming from HDNet and HDNet Movies. HDNet features a variety of programming including live sports, sitcoms, dramas, action series, documentaries, and music concerts while HDNet Movies delivers a commercial-free schedule of full-length feature films from an extensive library from Warner Bros. Customers also will have the option of subscribing to high-definition HBO. Charter hopes to add the local broadcast affiliates soon. Customers must have an HDTV set and subscribe to Charter Digital Cable® to receive High Definition programming and costs are as follows:
Customers who subscribe to Charter High Definition Service will receive an advanced HD digital set-top receiver, a generation beyond the current model digital set-top receiver. A Charter High Definition Self Installation Kit is available for customers who want to complete their own install. The kit includes the RGB/audio cables necessary to hook up the equipment. Charter Digital High Definition package is available today for customers.
