HDNet Films' "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room" Nominated for Best Documentary Academy Award

Documentary made its debut in theatres and exclusively on HDNet Movies on April 22, 2005 and is now available on DVD

DALLAS, TX - It was announced this morning that "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room" has been nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Documentary Feature category.

"Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room" was produced by HDNet Films, the high-definition production division that is co-owned by Todd Wagner and Mark Cuban, who also own HDNet and HDNet Movies. It was the first film to be distributed in the ground-breaking day-and-date release strategy, making a joint debut in both theatres and on HDNet Movies on the same day, April 22nd, 2005 and is currently available on DVD.

"Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room" is the inside story of one of history's greatest business scandals, in which top executives of America's 7th largest company walked away with over one billion dollars while investors and employees lost everything. The film benefits greatly from Fortune reporters Bethany McLean and Peter Elkind, who were among the first journalists to raise questions about Enron and who co-authored the best-selling book "The Smartest Guys in the Room." Using insider accounts and incendiary corporate audio and videotapes, Gibney shows the almost unimaginable personal excesses of the Enron hierarchy and the utter moral vacuum that posed as corporate philosophy. The film comes to a harrowing dénouement as we hear Enron traders' own voices as they wring hundreds of millions of dollars in profits out of the California energy crisis. As a result, we come to understand how the avarice of Enron's traders and their bosses had a shocking and profound domino effect that may shape the face of our economy for years to come.

HDNet and HDNet Movies networks are available on a national basis via DIRECTV, DISH Network, Bright House Networks, Charter Communications, Insight Communications, Time Warner Cable and many other cable companies affiliated with the National Cable Television Cooperative (NCTC).
