Dan Rather Reports to Feature In-Depth Interviews With Exiled Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg

Two influential leaders sit down with Dan Rather, Tuesday, August 21 at 8:00 p.m. ET

Dallas (August 20, 2007) - This Tuesday's DAN RATHER REPORTS will feature in-depth interviews with two key public figures in today's news - one may influence the balance of power in the Middle East; the other runs the biggest city in the nation.

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto tells HDNet Global Correspondent Dan Rather that Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf must shed his military uniform if he is to enjoy any form of power sharing agreement with his political opponents - including Bhutto herself.

When asked by Rather about the chances of Musharraf retaining his dual role as President and Chief of Army under a power sharing agreement with her party, Bhutto said that there were "no odds of General Musharraf being in uniform and having a power sharing agreement with the opposition."

Bhutto was the first woman to lead a post-colonial Muslim nation but now faces a series of challenges in returning to Pakistan including corruption charges dating from her time in office, and a law that prevents prime ministers from serving more than two terms. A power sharing agreement with Bhutto and Musharraf is proposed to aid Musharraf's drop in popularity among the Pakistani people.

Also in Tuesday's program, Rather has a rare sit-down interview with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg where he made it categorically clear that he will not run for President of the United States, nor will he seek a Vice Presidential bid nor any cabinet position for that matter, something he's never done before:

"I believe... certain things and if somebody asks me where I stand, I tell them. And that's not a way to get elected generally. Nobody's going to elect me president of the United States."

On the topic of taking a cabinet position, Bloomberg added:

"Nobody is going to delegate a lot of power to a secretary that they can't control," said Bloomberg. "I'd be happy to provide advice if anybody asked me no matter who the president is."

Both of these in-depth interviews air on DAN RATHER REPORTS, Tuesday, August 21 on HDNet at 8:00p.m. ET. The program also airs at 11:00 p.m. ET, to accommodate west coast prime time.
