Dan Rather Reports Presents an Interview With Former Guantanamo Chief Prosecutor Colonel Morris Davis

Dan Rather Reports, "Pressuring the Prosecutor" Airs on HDNet Tuesday, December 18 at 8:00 p.m. ET

Dallas (December 13, 2007) - In this Tuesday's DAN RATHER REPORTS, "Pressuring the Prosecutor," Rather sits down with Colonel Morris Davis, the former chief prosecutor of the Guantanamo detainees who resigned his post in October of 2007, citing political pressure.

In the interview, when asked by Rather if there were any concerns about the upcoming 2008 presidential election and how that might fit into the prosecution and non-prosecution of cases, Davis tells Rather, " I think the big fear that was expressed was if Hillary Clinton wins the White House-- this whole show goes away, and Guantanamo is shut down."

Davis continued to say, "So, there's a distrust of the military. And you've got political involvement. What I've seen in this process is that if you combine-- ya know, excessive-- arrogance with excessive ignorance-- you wind up with six years later with-- one guilty plea done."

The episode then leads into a larger discussion about Habeas Corpus and whether or not the detainees at Guantanamo have the right to challenge their detention.

Joining Dan Rather in this discussion are Neil Katyal, a law professor at Georgetown University who successfully argued a Supreme Court case three years ago on behalf of a Guantanamo detainee and Andrew McBride, a lawyer who worked at the Justice Department and filed a brief in support of the government's position in this most recent case.

Also in this week's episode is an examination of a movement to teach the Bible in public schools. "Bible School" examines the growing trend of teaching the bible as an historical text in public schools across the United States.
